My working process

Here are a few of my sketches of Shoreham.

While I am away on location I sketch, often using a single line, i quickly record my immediate impressions of a place.

Over the last decade I have been all over the world in search of inspiration, from as far afield as China and Zanzibar, to as close to home as Sussex, and have ammased hundreds of sketchbooks full of my scribbles!!

On my return to the studio, I use these as a basis for my larger paintings.

All the colours are from memory, and using these sketches I try recreate the atmosphere of the particular place.

I use oil on canvas and work in thin layers to create an even surface. i use Michael Harding oils, and my canvas's are all hand made by Carlo at Frame Game Canvas's.
